What is RISE Expansion?
RISE (Reaching Independence through Support & Education) is a community empowerment program focused on personal, professional, and financial growth to promote long-term stability for individuals and families. Through weekly group classes and one-on-one coaching, RISE helps participants build the tools, confidence, and support systems needed to move forward.
RISE Expansion brings this model to new communities through trusted local partner organizations. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we equip local partners to implement RISE in ways that align with their existing services and meet the unique needs of the people they serve.

RISE participants have demonstrated meaningful gains in income stability, credit improvement, and overall self-sufficiency.
RISE Expansion Locations
RISE is currently active in several counties across Missouri. Each site is led by local partners who have deep roots in their communities and a strong understanding of the people they serve.

“As a RISE facilitator, we have the ability to spread hope and to equip people with the skills needed to provide a positive step towards personal development.”
Tim Lovitt, RISE Hannibal

"The impact RISE Aurora is making to our families/participants is that they are not along! We are building camaraderie and community. We are building strong foundations for financial stability with SMART goals and vision boards. We are giving them HOPE!!”
Marsha Egan, RISE Aurora

“RISE has meant so much more than just the X’s and O’s of a program. It’s life transformation. Watching a person realize they no longer have to live as a vitim of their circumstances is incredible. I encourage anyone looking for that kind of transformation to get involved in RISE.”
Pastor Rob Reyes, RISE Pueblo

Alex Light, MSW
Personal Development Coach & RISE Expansion Coordinator
Alex Light, a native of Greene County, Missouri, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Missouri State University in 2019 and her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Missouri in 2024. While selecting a practicum site for her master’s degree, she discovered the Drew Lewis Foundation (DLF) and was chosen to complete her practicum there. During this experience, her work with DLF staff and RISE members sparked a deep passion for the mission of DLF and the RISE program. She joined the DLF as a full-time staff member in the fall of 2023. Today, Alex serves in dual roles as a Personal Development Coach and Expansion Coordinator, working directly with RISE members while also helping grow the RISE program through RISE Expansion into communities across Missouri and beyond. Outside of work, Alex enjoys watching movies, exploring antique stores, and cuddling with her cats.

Jessica Smith, MS
Director of RISE Expansion
Jessica Smith holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colorado State University–Pueblo and a Master’s degree in Social Psychology from Walden University. With five years experience at DLF, she serves as the Director of RISE Expansion, working to bring RISE to residents of Missouri and beyond. When she’s not working, you can find her cuddling with her dogs, reading a book, or planning her next travel adventure.
